This is a gem so rare it is almost mythical,  a as G46a as Durant 87 Proprietary Proof from the s
eries of 18__'s Bristoll, RI - Commercial Bank, that was graded by
PMG  GEM UNCIRCULATED 66 EPQ
.
The bank was incorporated in 1809 and remained in business as a State Bank until it became insolvent and closed its doors in 1869.
The design features the rare usage of a portrait of General Ambrose Burnside. This portrait is flanked by vignettes of
Liberty
seated at left, and an allegorical maiden with a telescope at right.
The design is completed by two green oval 5 counters and a green security panel.
This is a Proprietary Proof printed from the original plates by ABNCo in the 20th century for corporate programs and other purposes. The original note is excessively rare in any form and thus a proprietary proof may be the only way to acquire an example of the design. The impression is printed on heavy cardstock and is in a lovely condition.
