Description
This is an extremeley rare find of a Proof from the s
eries of the 1830's-1840's Nashville, TN- Planters Bank of Tennessee, Branch issue
that was graded by
PMG GEM UNCIRCULATED 66 EPQ
.
The bank was chartered in 1833 and remained in business until approximately 1865 when the bank closed its doors. The bank had a total of nine branches and this note was a generic branch issue, with the issuing branch name written in. The design features a man standing with his dog flanked by four cameo-like medallion heads that were effective counterfeit deterrents. A juvenile head of
Mercury
is at bottom center. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with no forms of cancellation present in the signature lines. Two examples of this design were hidden away in Lot 1692 (in the Pennsylvania section) of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and Haxby was aware of this note in proof form prior to their appearance. This suggests a surviving population of perhaps less than six examples.
This piece is well margined and has an exceptional paper quality, attractive counters, and a wonderful well preserved Proof.
It is clean all around with sharp corners and fascinating colors. So look at the scans, check our 100% positive feedback and add this glorious note to your currency portfolio.
