Description
This is a beautiful remainder from this short lived bank. The Central Bank of Pennsylvania was a short-lived Blair County bank that was only in business from 1857 until about 1859 or so. Hoolidaysburg was named for the Holliday brothers, who were the first settlers in the region after their service in the French and Indian wars.
The note features a spectacular panoramic vignette that spans perhaps 80% of the note's width, featuring
Ceres
seated at left, a farmer reclining in a large red V protector at center, and what appears to be a grandfather and child seated under a shade tree at right. The rest of the note is covered in a lovely red overall tint with two red corner 5 counters. The note is printed on India paper and mounted on card with the usual POCs in the signature lines. There was a single sheet of four notes in lot 1567 of the 1990 ABNCo Archives sale and it is extremely likely that all of the subsequent offerings of this note, including this example, trace their provenance back to that sheet.
It has  received a grade by PMG ABOUT UNCIRCULATED 53 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) a real under-graded in our opinion, it looks like a Gem when holding it in hands.
