This is another rarity from the Charles R. Pease, Jr. Collection.
This is the second bank by this name to operate in Portland. It was incorporated in 1856 and closed in 1860. This is a period Proof from the antebellum period rather than a Proprietary Proof made during the 20th century. The dsign features a large vignette of an allegorical woman surrounded by symbols of Manufacturing although it is titled Hebe. A smaller vignette of a sailor seated on a barrel appears at left. The note is printed on India paper mounted on cardstock with the usual small POCs in the signature lines.

PMG 61 UNCIRCULATED
with a notation of large tear in the back, however,  since the note is mounted this tear is well hidden and barely noticable. There were two examples of this variety with no tint in the 1990 ABNCo archieves sales.
this issued notes from the bank either excessively rare or non-existent, this may be the only way to acquire the design any time soon.
This piece is well margined and has an exceptional paper quality, attractive counters, and a wonderful well preserved Proprietary Proof.
