This basket has a good number of years on it.
They come in oval, round, and octagonal shapes, with and without designs. Some are similar size and shape as Northwest Coast Nootka/Makah Indian baskets, but the material and weaving techniques differ. Makah baskets are made from cedar and beargrass, Makah stitches are almost square in shape, rather than long and narrow, like the Chinese baskets. Nootka/Makah basket lids fit on an inside lip, and are flush with the basket, not fitting over the top edge, like this. (Nootka baskets are from British Columbia, Canada. Makah baskets from the Olympic Penninsula of Washington state.
Tight weave and sturdy with no holes, in very good condition, nice darkened aged patina
