    Description

    CHINESE EXPORT SILVER BASKET       c1840 KHECHEONG  - MOST RARE FORM -
    A very fine and rare c1840 Chinese export silver fruit or cake basket.
    There is only a single small, sugar basket in Forbe's text.
    A single wire basket without handle in Chait's collection,
    And in Chan (2005) two examples, similar in size to ours,
    though made more than half a century later.
    This c1840 Khecheong basket in raised circular wide panel
    form, with acanthus streams rising from base as well
    as suspended from the thick, stepped scallop rim.
    Twin vine overhead swing handle with center oval shield,
    never monogrammed.
    Atop winged leaf center anthemion on satin ground
    scroll tip feet.
    The CES basket is 8 1/4 inches across rim
    and weighs 28 1/2 standard ounces.
    Hallmarked as shown.
    Marks well struck.
    The identical mark illustrated in Dr Forbe's text.
    In very fine condition.
    Rich sterling patina.
    Retains original detail.
    The basket free of repairs or any restoration.
