NOTE: These notes were printed in about 1950 in a group of 500 sets by Philip Chase who discovered the final 2 plates for the 0 and 0 backs. These "chemicography" plates were designed to stymie the Union's counterfeiting efforts. The ship transporting the initial trial proofs and plates was captured attempting to get past the Union blockade. The originals (master plates and notes) were destroyed in the London Blitz during WWII when the Straker plant was hit and destroyed. The Chase plates are now in the Smithsonian Institution.
