    Description

Civil War Confederate note from the Corporation of Charlestown, State of Virginia dated May 23, 1861. This is a rare example with ONE printed on back in pink ink. Virginia seal on front of note. Hand signed and numbered 169 which is a very low number.  Rarely is a bill from the attic of Holmes Conrad in this great condition.
This is from the attic of the Conrad House in Winchester, VA. The caption under the picture reads:  This house built circa 1790 stood on a hill at 12 North Cameron Street across from City Hall.  Long a landmark, it was torn down in 1969 for a parking lot.
Holmes Conrad was a major in Turner Ashby's Laurel Brigade, Virginia Cavalry, C.S.A.  A picture of the house is shown, just to enhance the listing.  Picture is not included with the bill.  Bill was purchased at the auction prior to razing the house.
Absolutely an original bill.  Will be shipped in a bill protector, and mailed flat.
