    Description

This antique basket was made toward the end of the Qin Empire, before the formation of the Republic of China.
The style of this basket is generally referred to as a bridal basket or picnic basket. It was also used for sewing supplies and miscellaneous other items.
The entire basket, including the carving and painting on the lid, was done by hand. The lid was at first and then gold and black lacquer painted.
The handle is bow shaped handle is  permanently anchored in place with three rivets on each side.
The basket is 10 in tall at the highest handle point. All other measurements are shown in the photographs.
Note that there is a crack in the lid but it does not go all the way through.
I would still rate this basket as being in very good to excellent condition. It has been well cared for.
Please refer to each photograph provided, as our pictures are always an important part of our descriptions.
