    Description

    Hand Carved Hawaiian Makau Necklace
This is a hand carved Hawaiian Makau fish hook necklace, made of Hawaiian Koa wood and Buffalo bone.
It is lashed to an adjustable hemp cord. The longest length of the cord is 27 inches. The pendant itself is 2 inches tall and 1-¼ inches wide.
    About the Makau…
The fish hook, makau in Hawaiian, and the way it is knotted have endured as symbols of the deep reverence and connection the Hawaiian people feel with the ocean.
Legend has it that the Hawaiian islands were pulled from the sea by a giant fish hook! Early Hawaiians made fish hooks from any and all available materials… shells, wood and bones.
Worn as ornamentation, the makau represents prosperity, strength and good luck.
