    Description

Tribal – “Spiral” design on dark brown draw bag. Maori design pendant. New Zealand and the Maori culture are well known for their face tattoos know as Ta Moko. This type of traditional face tattoo told of the person’s linage and status within a tribe. This form of tattoo was highly personalized and played a big part in Maori spirituality. Kirituhi, which means “skin art” or “body art”, is a relatively new term being used to describe Maori –style tattoos. Kirituhi should not be confused with Ta Moko. Ta Moko is Taonga – a national and sacred treasure. Kirituhi is more general than personal. Moko was part of a person’s mana or spiritual inner strength. Charm is made from toxin-free pewter. Bag is made of dark brown leather and measures 1 5/8” high and 1.5” wide before the fringe. It is strung on a leather thong and mounted on a card.
