    Description

This unusual Turkmen (Turkoman) pendant was handcrafted during the early to mid-1900's in Turkmenistan, Central Asia for the nomadic Ersari sub-tribe.
It is old tribal jewelry - not a new reproduction.
The shape is that of a stylized-tortoise that celebrates femininity. Women are associated symbolically with water animals, since both women and water are life-giving.
It was sturdily made in 50% silver, and does not bend.
After so many years, it has a warm age-patina and some wear-patterns, so I put it on auction.
To show relative size, I placed this old Turkmen pendant on a new 18-inch display neck-cord to photograph as a necklace on a manikin. This display cord is included free with purchase, but you can easily remove it if you want to.
