    Description

Pair of beautiful old mother of pearl (locally called, "sadaf") buttons from the tribal regions of Kohistan, Pakistan. Each button has a metal "clip" running through one of the holes. This could act as a clasp, but I am not sure. I've left the metal as is and will let you decide how to use these pieces. The geometric symbols are made by hand. Speculation about the use of the buttons is varied - some say they are worn on dresses called, "jumlo", others indicate they are used on decorative items. One of the buttons is thick, the other is thin. The thick button is nearly .25" tall, the thin button is about 1/8". Each button is worn from years of use but their designs are still visible. There are some differences in the surface on the front due to the natural shape of the shell. The remains of the shell are still apparent on the back. Not a matching pair. Both are about 2" wide.
Different monitors and phone apps show colors differently. I do my best to accurately document color using both photos and written descriptions. If you have any questions, please send me a message.
