We located this working, preening canvasback drake in the northern San Francisco Bay (California) area c. 1970's. Uniqueness is obvious and attractive. The name "Varella" was attached to the underside. It measures approx 12" from front to back and is approx 6" from the bottom to the top of the head. The very solid wood is probably redwood, and the painting is extremely "special." We think this decoy is from the second quarter of the 20th century and used on San Pablo Bay (San Francisco Bay) in the Sonoma Creek area. Very attractive and effective decoy! Cosmetic conditions can be seen in photos. Enjoy!
