Description
This collectible vintage Turkmen (Turkoman) gulyaka pendant was handcrafted during the mid-1900's in Turkmenistan, Central Asia for the nomadic Ersari sub-tribe.Gulyaka are traditional Turkmen tribal jewelry, usually worn at the color ("gulyaka" translated means "neck flower")
This vintage gulyaka was made with a silver-metal alloy. Patterns of stylized-birds' wings were highlighted with gild. The vibrant red bead was meant to ward off the evil eye.
Long chain-dangle hang below, clattering together with movement. There are 2 large bails on the back.
It is a sturdily made pendant, and does not bend.
In excellent condition, it has mild wear-patterns and a warm age-patina acquired over its many years.
To show relative size, I placed this old gulyaka on a new 18-inch display neck-cord to photograph as a necklace on a manikin. This display cord is included free with purchase, but you can easily remove it if you want to.
