A girda pendant is a distinctive kind of a Turkmen woman's tribal jewelry, with a characteristic notch at the top.
This girda was decorated with ornate medallions, gilding, and a scalloped edge - designs suggesting the Yomut or Choudur sub-tribes.
Beaded dangles with large bells hang below, clattering together with movement.
The red beads were placed for their vibrant color and to ward off the evil-eye. The larger bead in the center of the pendant has incised script.
This pendant was more recently strung into a necklace with new and old beads on simple twine.
There is a warm age-patina and mild wear-patterns.
